COMP 231 - Study Guide for Test 1
|
|
The test will be open book.
The material covered on the test will be taken from the following
sections of the book:
- Chapter 1: Skim the entire chapter with emphasis on the terminology.
- Chapter 2: Sections 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.5, 2.6. (Basic arithmetic, logical,
data transfer and branching MIPS assembly instructions only.).
- Chapter 3: Entire chapter.
- Appendix B: Sections B.1, B.2, B.3, B.5, B.6, B.7, B.8, B.9.
Ignore the discussion of Verilog.
A good approach to studying would be to try some of the problems at the
end of each of the chapters covered above.
Use the assignment problems and these study problems as a guide:
- Chapters 1: 1.1-55. There will not be questions like this on the test
but it maybe worthwhile to try them in order to test
your understanding of the basic vocabulary.
- Chapter 2: 2.29-32, 2.37, 2.39. Only very basic MIPS instructions will
be covered on the test. Some of these questions may require some
knowledge of C to understand. You will not be required to know any
C for the test.
- Chapter 3: 3.1-15, 3.27-31, 3.35-48. Ignore questions referring to
the machine representation of MIPS instructions.
- Appendix B: B.3-14, B.24-30, B.33, B.34, B.36, B.39, B.40. Ignore
any questions referring to Verilog.
