COMP 231 - Study Guide for Test 2

The test will be open book. The material covered on the test will be taken from the following sections of the book:

• Chapter 4: All sections including Amdahl's law on the CD.
• Chapter 5: Sections 5.1-5.5, 5.7, 5.9-5.12 with an emphasis on 5.1-5.5 plus 5.7.
• Chapter 6: Sections 6.1-6.6 with emphasis on Section 6.1. You can safely ignore any of the Verilog code in sections 6.3-6.6 but it is probably worth reading these sections.
• Chapter 7: 7.1-7.3 (though you may want to read 7.5-7.9 as well).

A good approach to studying would be to try some of the problems at the end of each of the chapters covered above. Use the assignment problems and these study problems as a guide:

• Chapter 4: 4.1-4.26, 4.30, 4.34-4.46.
• Chapter 5: 5.1-5.6, 5.8-5.38, 5.40-5.48, 5.53-5.57.
• Chapter 6: 6.1-6.4, 6.7-6.9, 6.14, 6.17-6.22, 6.25-6.27, 6.36, 6.39.
• Chapter 7: 7.1-7.10, 7.12-7.16, 7.23-7.34
