COMP 312 - Assignments

There will be six hand-written (pencil and paper) assignments, approximately one every two weeks. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that students do the reading and at least attempt the assignment problems soon after they are handed out. There will be plenty of time for discussing the questions in class before they are due. Having a basic idea of what the problems are about will increase your understanding of the discussion and thereby increase your success in the course.

Late assignments will be accepted only under extreme circumstances. In order to facilitate individual scheduling problems, only the best five assignment grades will count towards your final grade. Despite this it is highly recommended that students hand in all assignments.

Policy on cooperation:

Students are encouraged to discuss the problems on the assignments and examine possible solutions with other students. Please take notice of two cardinal rules concerning such cooperation: 1) The final write up of the solutions to the problems should be the work of each individual student. It is unacceptable for two or more students to hand in word for word copies of solutions. 2) Any significant collaboration should be acknowledged (as for instance I acknowledge the help of M. Rice in developing this policy).
